What Is Mexico RFC?
Mexico RFC, whose full name is “Registro Federal de Contribuyentes,” is the Federal Taxpayer Registry number, a unique tax identification number issued by Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) to corporate and individual taxpayers. After a company is registered and established in Mexico, it must apply to the SAT for an RFC tax number in order to legally conduct business activities, issue invoices, carry out import customs clearance, pay taxes, and participate in commercial transactions.
Simply put, the RFC is a company's “tax ID card” in Mexico: without an RFC, a company cannot conduct formal business operations in Mexico, nor can it complete tax filings and invoice circulation. Mexico RFC is an essential compliance procedure for enterprises planning local investment, cross-border trade, e-commerce cooperation, and overseas market expansion in Mexico.
